Science experiment with water
Try this cool experiment and learn about the forces of nature
Encouraging children to explore their environment and inspire their natural curiosity with science will support children to make sense of the world around them.
In this video, LEYF’s pre-school teacher, Lukas, will demonstrate how to use water in a new and creative way.
You will need:
- running water
- plastic ruler
- nylon material, e.g. a cloth or a T-shirt
What to do
Rub the ruler on the nylon T-shirt. Rubbing the ruler with the nylon material will rub the electrons off the plastic ruler. Then touch the running water with the plastic ruler.
The ruler should make the running water bend!
Talk to your pre-school child before the experiment about what they think the ruler might do to the water.
Encourage them to try the experiment with other materials like metal or wood. Does it work in the same way?
For any children and parents unsure about how the experiment works, Lukas offers a simple scientific explanation for children.
