Dear Parents and Carers

The Government announced today that schools will close this Friday. However, some schools and nurseries will remain open to look after the children of keyworkers and vulnerable children. This means we will close from the end of Friday to most parents but remain open to provide care for the children of key workers as well as finding places for vulnerable children.

There will be further details from the Government tomorrow providing more information about what is meant by key workers and vulnerable children. We know this will definitely include NHS staff, police, delivery drivers and others who are essential to keep our society going during this challenging and uncertain time.

We believe that vulnerable children will include those with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND); children with an Education, Health and Care plan (EHC plan) or those who have a social worker.

This evening my team and I will continue to plan our response. To help us, we would ask parents who fit the “keyworker” category to speak to their nursery manager in the morning and complete a short online survey via an email link so we can capture numbers and needs and plan for those accordingly.  We are also looking at the issue of fees while we are closed and will update you tomorrow.

Thank you for your support during a difficult time. I am grateful for your kindness towards the staff who are continuing to provide a service to the children despite the uncertainties for them personally and their families.

Best wishes

June O’Sullivan, CEO (London Early Years Foundation)
