Organisations which help LEYF to extend children’s learning
Teens & Toddlers
Teens and Toddlers is unique because it targets two sets of vulnerable children simultaneously, raising the aspirations of teens (age 13–17) by pairing them as a mentor and role model to a toddler (age 2–5) who is in need of extra support. This transformative work experience, combined with classroom training, teaches young people interpersonal skills and builds their sense of responsibility so they make positive decisions about their education, their health and their future. The mentoring provided by the teens also helps the toddlers to improve their personal, social and communication skills.
Paddington Farm is a charitable trust and a social enterprise, located on a 43 acre organic farm situated at the foot of the famous Glastonbury Tor in Somerset. As well as being a working farm we provide comfortable accommodation for groups, families and individuals, particularly for children from disadvantaged urban areas. We provide some free rural educational activities to enhance the farm experience and to promote environmental responsibility.
We support EdUKAid , a charity that provides pre-primary education for children aged three to seven in Tanzania. Last Christmas we ran activities across our nurseries to raise funds for classroom resources and equipment for EdUKaid children. We held a Christmas concert, a onesie day, a raffle and our generous parents also donated to the cause.
Where we go and what we do
Elderly care homes
Being part of the community is important to life at a LEYF nursery, and one way we strengthen our relationships within the local community is by visiting local elderly care homes. During our visits the children enjoy singing and dancing as well as conversing with the residents. On special occasions such as Christmas and Easter, the young and young at heart enjoy taking part in art and craft activities together.
Each nursery will endeavour to connect within their community and make links with their local libraries, parks, bakeries and YMCAs.
We work with OnPurpose , a social enterprise that runs a one-year, full time, leadership programme that combines paid work placements with weekly training and regular one-to-one coaching and mentoring. We are a placement host and the OnPurpose Associates work on a variety of projects linked to our strategy.
International Early Years
The purpose and key driver of the International Early Years project is to offer professional support to leaders and practitioners working across early childhood services, both nationally and internationally. The authentic integration of early childhood services makes a resounding difference to outcomes for children and ensures that services are uniquely placed to support families in making good choices and seeking out the help they need for themselves and their children. Health, education and family support services are strengthened when they work collaboratively and understand the potential of strong connections.
