Career paths and professional development

We value aspiration and ambition at LEYF. We support our staff with development opportunities through the LEYF Academy so that we can provide the best learning experiences for our children.

Our dedicated and award-winning Learning and Development Team ensures all nursery staff benefit from at least 32 hours of professional development each year, using a combination of internal and external trainers and facilitators.

Aspiring Leaders Programme

We're passionate about supporting staff to become the next generation of LEYF leaders by giving them the knowledge and skills to take on leadership roles within our new and existing nurseries. Our goal is for 50% of our new leaders to come from within the organisation. Our Aspiring Leaders Programme provides staff with their Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management from the Institute of Leadership and Management. Many of our staff have already developed from Apprentice to Nursery Manager and beyond, so the only thing limiting you is your ambition! We have now opened up the programme to non-LEYF practitioners, for more details see here.

Professional development for early years practitioners

The LEYF Academy offers the knowledge and experience needed to extend the capabilities of our high performers. It includes practical tools and assessment to measure how well we're introducing new ways of working in our nurseries.

Action learning

To make sure we're always improving we use action learning in our nurseries, which involves working on ‘real life’ challenges and using the skills and knowledge of experienced leaders to support learners to develop the thinking skills of an effective leader.
