The nursery day at LEYF typically starts around 7:45am, as staff make final checks and preparations before all our eager children begin to arrive.
It was a little different at Bessborough Community Nursery this morning, however, as Manager Mona Majed made an unusually early start to work - welcoming ITV Daybreak's Cordelia Kretzschmar around 5:30am!
As part of a feature on the launch of the new 'Eat Better Start Better' guidelines from the School Food Trust (SFT), her TV interview was soon followed by a visit by Sarah Teather, Minister for Children and Families, and SFT nutritionist Patricia Mucavele.
Healthy eating is at the heart of helping every child get the best start in life.
Nurseries play a vital role in getting children from all backgrounds to develop good eating habits – but many lack the expert knowledge of what is the best food to serve.
Parents rightly want their children to be eating healthy, nutritional food.
Thanks to these voluntary guidelines drawn up by the School Food Trust, we will help nurseries and other childcare providers do just that.

As an active and passionate supporter of great food for children under five, we were especially proud to have been involved in the development of these guidelines - which also feature photos throughout from another LEYF nursery: Katharine Bruce!
